Embark on a captivating 7-day journey through the heart of Eastern Europe, an adventure that begins in the vibrant city of Warsaw, Poland. Day 1-3: Kraków
Start your day at the Main Market Square (Rynek Główny), one of Europe's largest medieval town squares. Enjoy breakfast at one of the cafes overlooking the square. Visit St. Mary's Basilica, known for its stunning altarpiece by Veit Stoss and the Hejnał mariacki (the bugle call) played every hour from its towers. Explore the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), where you can buy Polish handicrafts and souvenirs.
Have lunch at one of the traditional Polish restaurants around the Old Town. After lunch, walk to the Wawel Royal Castle, a symbol of Polish statehood and culture. Don’t miss the Dragon's Den and the stunning views of the Vistula River. Visit the Wawel Cathedral, where Polish monarchs were crowned and are buried.
Enjoy dinner in Kazimierz, the historic Jewish district, offering a variety of dining options from traditional Jewish fare to modern fusion cuisine. Explore the vibrant nightlife in Kazimierz, including quaint bars and live music venues.
Day 4: Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau
Start early on a guided tour or arrange transport to Auschwitz, located about 1.5 hours from Kraków. Most tours begin in the morning and can last 6 to 7 hours, including travel time. The first part of the tour usually covers Auschwitz I, the original concentration camp, which now serves as a museum displaying exhibits and personal items of the victims.
After a short break, the tour typically proceeds to Auschwitz II-Birkenau, the largest of the more than 40 camps and subcamps that made up the Auschwitz complex. Here, you can see the remnants of the gas chambers, the railway line and platform where selections took place, and the vast expanses of the camp.
After returning to Kraków, take some time to reflect on the day. A quiet dinner in the Old Town could be a good way to end your day. If you’re up for it, consider a gentle walk along the Planty Park, which surrounds the Old Town, as a way to decompress and gather your thoughts.
Day 5-7: Warsaw
Arrive in Warsaw and check into your accommodation. Spend your first day exploring the historic Old Town, including the Royal Castle, Warsaw Barbican, and Market Square. Visit the Warsaw Uprising Museum and learn about the city's wartime history.
Explore Łazienki Park, Wilanów Palace, and the Palace of Culture and Science. Sample Polish cuisine such as pierogi, żurek (sour rye soup), and traditional Polish desserts like sernik (cheesecake) before you depart.
